Band Assisted Jumps

But one of the most commonly neglected piece of this equation is the velocity of movement. Sure we try to move weights faster to build power but we often don’t hit the far end of the force velocity curve when it comes to speed.

Band assisted jumps are a quick and easy way to lighten the load of jumps even more, in turn allowing your muscles to contract at an even higher velocity.
-
In fact I was able able to reach peak velocities as high as 3 m/s whereas with body weight box jumps I was only able reach peak velocities of around 1.7.

After years of training for primarily max strength and neglecting velocity, I have gotten stronger but my ability to use that force quickly has lagged. Using banded jumps will hopefully “rewire” me a bit to move faster, which is pivotal for #dunktoberfest. Stay on track with your workouts AND with your diet. If one of those is off, you will not see any changes. .

Here’s a little tip: take pictures of yourself! You may not see changes day to day, but if you track yourself by using pictures, you will see the small changes that you have been working on everyday! .

It’s important to fuel yourself properly after a workout. Depending on the type and intensity of your workout, your glucose stores are depleted and need replenishing.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When the glucose (sugar) in your blood is used up during your workout, your body dips into its stored glucose in the form of glycogen. This stored glucose is found in the liver and is available when the body is depleted.

Now your body is depleted of both blood glucose and stored glucose and needs proper replenishing. Signs of low glucose post exercise include hypoglycemia, headaches, fatigue, weakness, confusion, GI upset, nausea and even vomiting. If you feel any of these symptoms post exercise, it is possible that your glucose stores are not being replenished properly.

Choose a meal that consists of a complex carbohydrate such as sweet potato. Simple sugars found in fruit such as watermelon will help quickly replenish the blood glucose. It is important to not depend only on simple sugars as this can result in a blood sugar crash. So the combination of a complex carb containing fiber will help decrease an insulin spike. Complete proteins are also important as excess protein will convert into glucose to be stored into the body. Protein is important post exercise to replenish muscle damage and promote new muscle growth.
