We ALL go through phases of being highly productive and being…
well… not so much.
Often when we aren’t constantly producing, we call ourselves “lazy”
Or we compare ourselves to Suzy who is getting so much more done than we are!
(We don’t know if Suzy has a partner, a maid, a chef, or what, but we def “can tell” she’s doing the most)
Seasons are real, and we aren’t always going to be doing the most, but here are a few things to help you get more productive:
1️⃣ Time blocking or using a timer. Set aside specific time to get specific tasks done. I like to sometimes use a timer to make sure I’m not dilly-dallying around, and I also love time blocking, because it means, there is an end in sight. Sometimes setting a timer works just to get you started, and you’ll find yourself in momentum and want to keep working.
2️⃣ Build in breaks. I like the timer or time blocks because I know a break is coming up. If I’m in a good flow, I may skip one but I make sure I take at least A break. Stand up, walk across the room, stretch, leave the house or the office for a second. Napping is my personal favorite break activity 😴
3️⃣ Environment. Where are you trying to get things done? I personally love the ability to work from home, BUT it is not where I am the most productive. Sometimes I need the noise and energy of a coffee shop, sometimes I need to just start typing in my bed as soon as I wake up. Know what environment helps you focus more. This might mean decluttering a small work space. Maybe it is as simple as lighting a candle or buying a plant that makes you feel good.
4️⃣ Eat. (And coffee!) When I am hungry, my brain don’t work. For most, low-blood sugar and running on empty, don’t provide optimal results. You need to fuel your body and your mind. Make sure you’re eating a hearty and healthy meal before you dive head first into work.
5️⃣ Prioritize. Look at what needs to get done first in order of importance or urgency and get those tasks done first. When you are overwhelmed with 50 things on a to-do list, prioritizing the Top 3-5 can help you slash through much quicker.
