Bank holiday Monday prop free mat with the half roll back and variations.

The arms and legs are used to challenge abdominals and stability. ✅Half Roll Back Position. ▶️Start sitting tall on sit bones, legs straight out in front and arms extended away from shoulders, palms facing in.

▶️Inhale to prepare and engage the abdominals as you exhale to tuck the pelvis under and start to c-curve your spine towards the mat until you feel the strong abdominal engagement and then drop 5cm and hold the position.

1️⃣ Monkey Arms
.
➡️Raise one arm up so bicep is level with ears, return and raise other arm. 10 reps each arm.
.
➡️Progess to moving both arms simultaneously so they cross in the middle. 10 - 15 reps.

2️⃣ Leg extensions
.
➡️ Using bent knees, feet on floor, find the half roll back position.
.
➡️ Straighten one leg away, lift and lower and return foot to floor. Alternate legs and repeat up to 10 reps each leg.
.
3️⃣ Oblique Arm floats (swipe ➡️video 2).
.
➡️ Hold the half roll back position and float one arm at a time out to the side following your eye gaze to hand.
.
✔ Bent knees or a small ball behind tailbone will give support if needed.

A beautiful representation of the human body, what we have been given, which emphasizes even more the need to respect it!

The statue is an exercise, a careful description and a virtuous academic essay on the muscles and structure of the human body. It is the statue of “Saint Bartholomew skinned”, made by the sculptor Marco d’Agrate in 1562 for the Veneranda Fabbrica of the Duomo in Milan.

The first scientific work on anatomy by Andrea Vesalio, on the autopsy study of the human body and dissection of corpses, was published in Venice in 1453.

Saint Bartholomew was flayed, literally skinned alive as a punishment for converting people to Christianity.

He is one of Christ’s twelve apostles, executed for his Christian faith, portrayed here based on how he is identified by iconography following the agony suffered. He carries what looks like a drape on his shoulders and around his body. But it is his skin; clear reference to the torture inflicted.

It might look a bit scary to some, but I see it as a beautiful representation of the amazing beauty of the human body and intuition.

Try out some great CORE WORKOUT EXERCISES:

👉🏼BANDED ROTATIONS: try to keep your arms straight, activate your core: belly button in and pull the band to one side! Return to starting position and repeat on the other side 💦

👉🏼 UP AND DOWN PLANKS: begin in a full plank, (Scaled LEVEL 1 Version: lower your right elbow and then your left, coming into an elbow plank). LEVEL 2: use what you have, a rack, a ball, a kettlebell to bring your Planks up to the next level 💦
.
👉🏼 HANGING LEG RAISES: Hanging from a bar, lift your legs (without any swing) and try to keep your knees straight. Use your core muscles to control the movement. Again: Don‘t swing to gain momentum. Raise your legs as high as you can and return back to the starting position 💦

👉🏼 TOES TO BAR: LEVEL 3! Hanging from the bar, lean back a little while lifting both legs straight forward and up until your toes touch the bar. Return back to the starting position: SLOW! Control the descent 💦
