Today was the 1st day of a dream I have been working towards for 24 years.
This lady with me has been an important person for most of my life. I don’t think she even knows the impact she has made.
24 years ago I met Tracy Young, LICSW. She was my school social worker. I spent many hours in her office talking about my teenage worries and feelings of not being enough. She got me through high school. I knew that one day I wanted to be a school social worker so that I can help teenagers like myself.
I followed in her footsteps. I attended the same college she did and she became my supervisor during my master's program.
It only took 4 years for me to finally find a position as a school social worker. After 6 years in a school, I started my own private practice.
As many of you know, my business grew fast. This month marks my 4th year in business. I now have 18 clinicians, two assistants and an average of 65 new referrals a month.
It was time for me to open another location. I decided to open this new office in the area I grew up. It’s 45 minutes away from the current office. Growing up in that area I know about the shortage of mental health services and LGBTQ+ safe zones.
About 3 weeks ago Tracy sent me a message asking about my new location. She had finally decided after 24 years in a school as their social worker, it was time to move on.
It had been about 13 years since we last saw each other, but once we met up it was like time had never past.
I knew in my gut that my business would not be able to grow the way I want it to unless I had someone like Tracy by my side. The woman I wanted to be when I grew up, my mentor is now my COO.
Today was the first day we began working on our new office space in my hometown. Today is the first day of the dream that I have wanted for 24 years. It feels that we have come full circle.
Stay tuned for regular updates on our new adventure.
