Today I honour my father.
The role of a father is vital in the up bringing of a man/ son, because when young every son sees his father as a role model... as you grow older you learn not only from your fathers strengths but from his mistakes as well.
After speaking to a colleague at work, about attending the their child's sports days... we concluded the conversation, by realizing how important it is to have your parents at your sports matches, for various reasons... I realised that my father attended every single match I have ever played. Whether it was hockey, cricket or rugby etc. He and my grandfather were my biggest supporters. No matter how good or bad I played, they continued to return to the next match and cheer me on from the side. Even if he had double bookings, he would 1st take me to my match and attend to the other things afterwards. It's often these small gestures that are the most valuable things in the lives of family. Time is more valuable than any gift money can buy. This made me realise, that family should come 1st, before any other responsibilities or commitments in our lives.
His heart, is a heart of gold, a soft but stern hearted individual. My up bringing was very stern, and often I did not agree with it, because my other friends had it much easier with their parents. However, much of that sternness has shaped the man I have become today.
He is a jack of many trades and much of my creative and handyman character comes from him. When ever I do renovations or build something, I prefer getting advice from him, because much like myself, he is a perfectionist and has an eye for detail.
Dad, I appreciate all the sacrifices you make for this family and I am impressed with the the new character you are becoming at the moment. We all grow each and every day, and our characters are forever evolving as time goes on; and I can say that you are becoming the man God has destined for you to be.
Thank you for always helping me with my diy projects, new ideas and renovations. Even though I can see sometimes that you are tired and don't actually feel like doing it, I appreciate that you take the time assist me anyway. 🙏
