Mental health and happiness is a huge piece of my health and wellness pie.🥮 I achieve fulfillment from traveling, seeing the world, and experiencing things outside of my routine. It clears my head and refocuses me.🌍 This weekend, I road tripped down the Oregon coast, ate an endless amount of snacks, camped in the back of my car, and didn't have cellphone service for a day.🏕️ I saw beautiful scenery, took car naps, walked along the beach, and lived in the moment.🚗 Part of taking care of my health is taking a break from reality, from healthy eating, and my daily life.🍨 A quick trip to the beach is all I needed to feel refreshed and sufficiently adventured. 🌊

Taking a Mommy moment...and I am realizing more than ever how important that really is. My whole life I have struggled with anxiety and high stress. The littlest things can set me off but in my mind they come at me like they are big things. As life has gotten busier, the anxiety and stresses in my mind only haunt me more. I am sure every Mother can attest that the world becomes scarier once we have children and every scenario we see on the news we immediately put ourselves in. Being in Postpartum is definitely a time where I struggle the most. "Is this normal or is this the hormones talking?"

9 months were spent feeling out-of-body only to continue to feel the same way even once baby is here. We go through a lot, Ladies! Our lives are flipped upside down and two kids has only magnified that for me. I truly love my life and my blessings that God has given me, but it is completely okay for me to say that some days are freaking hard! It took me 20 minutes alone to write this caption with a baby on my boob and Noelia in the background! One of the main reasons I am so in love with fitness and living an active lifestyle is how much it helps me mentally.

I have never tried meditation but it something that has been recommended to me many times. I recently downloaded the @headspace App and have partnered with them to see what I can accomplish mentally through their platform. I have honestly viewed meditation as a waste of time in the past, but I am hoping this App can prove me wrong. This Mama needs all the mental help she can get! Are you someone who meditates? #DrinkAguaChallenge 💦Water regulates appetite, when we are dehydrated our brain sends the same signals as when we are hungry, so we can confuse being hungry with being thirsty. -
If it hasn’t passed 3 hours since your last meal but all of a sudden you feel hungry, it’s probably a glass of water that you need. -
Also, dehydration slows down your metabolism. Being slightly dehydrated decelerates our metabolism around 3%, and creating the habit to stay hydrated can accelerate it up to 30%.

In this video strength coach @kieferlammi takes us step-by-step through how to perform the Reverse Bear Crawl.⠀

The reverse bear crawl is an excellent exercise that fits into the 'other' category outside of the staple movement patterns (hinge, squat, push, pull, lunge/step, carry). We'd classify it primarily as a dynamic core training exercise that has an anti-extension benefit as well as a rotary control component.⠀

⠀
One of the secondary benefits of the Reverse Bear Crawl (and a reason we tend to perform it in reverse) is that it places an emphasis on good shoulder/scapular stability and strength in protraction and upward rotation as you actively push yourself away from the ground to move backwards. ⠀

⠀
A checklist for performing:⠀
1️⃣Begin in quadruped (on all fours) and slightly hover your knees off the ground so weight is on hands and toes⠀
2️⃣Actively push through the ground with your hands⠀
3️⃣Drive motion by pushing yourself backwards with one arm while reaching back with the opposite leg⠀

When gripping the kettlebell for pressing exercises or racked position carries it's common to see people begin with an excessively extended wrist position. Not only could this provide added stress to the wrist, but when you go to press the weight of the bell sometimes rotates inward towards your head, versus staying on the outside of your forearm during the motion. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Instead, aim to take a deeper, more diagonal grip with the corner of the handle sitting in the crook of your thumb. If you're doing it right, once you get to the racked position you should have a vertical forearm and be able to point your fingers straight to the ceiling with a neutral wrist. Fitness trackers can be a great tool to understand what your N.E.A.T. (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis) is on a daily basis. I prefer not to wear mine while training because again, they aren’t entirely accurate. I’d rather have a general idea of what my step count is outside of the gym throughout the course of my day. I also WOULD NOT use fitness trackers to figure out where your maintenance calories may lie

Another point worth mentioning is using the fitness trackers in conjunction with your diet. For example, I’m usually nowhere near 16K+ steps a day and it’s only 2pm... 😦 That being said and considering I’m in a massing/gaining phase, I’ll be sure to consume another 100-150 calories to ensure that my activity is not outburning my food intake. The reverse can be said for those looking to lose weight

🛋This is fantastic for a post workout and at home when you have some time during the day. Hold for 2 mins and repeat on the other side

🛋Here's how to perform the couch stretch!

1. You will need a pillow or mat
2. Place the foot on the couch, knee into the pillow and body straight up
3. Squeeze your glutes and "tuck your tail bone underneath"
4. Big deep breath in and then exhale.
5. On the exhale, squeeze the glutes and slightly glide forward to increase the stretch
6. Continue to repeat that for two mins and then switch to the other leg

Stop and take 10 - Deep breaths that is. In today’s world it’s hard to not feel stressed out, frustrated and sometimes even overwhelmed right? ⠀

With everything we have going on in our busy lives, it is easy to let our emotions get the better of us when the to do lists just seem out of control! ⠀
⠀
One of the most simplest ways to calm our mind is to stop what we are doing and take some deep breaths.. ⠀
⠀
Breathing affects our noradrenaline levels, more commonly known as one of the “stress hormones”. Too much of this can put our body into the “fight or flight” mode. by taking some time to focus on our breath we can lower our heart rate, our noradrenaline levels and provide calmness amongst our mind and body. 🙏⠀
⠀
So the next time you are feeling stressed, take some time out to practice some mindful deep breathing. Slowly inhale through your nose, exhale through your mouth and repeat 10 times.

Save your shoulders and neck from chronic pain by simply keeping shoulders in one place, and working on proper contraction going up and down!👌🏼
.
Make sure to get a solid squeeze at the top and slowly lower the shoulders down for an extra stretch of the trapezius.👍🏼
.
You do not need to go extremely heavy to grow your traps, work in sets of 4 for 12 reps, focusing on each individual rep!👌🏼
.
Of course if you focus on heavy deadlifts, farmer carries in addition to shrugs your traps will take on a whole new meaning of large.💪🏼

You can do this at the gym or at home! If you do this at home, swap out the dumbbells with something you have laying around like a purse, gallon of water, etc. Th biggest thing with these moves is form, not weight so you can get creative! 🤪

Make sure you watch the last slide which has a form tip on Russian Twist variations ranging from beginner to advanced! It’s so important to focus on form in your core workouts as when performing some exercises improperly, it can put strain on your lower back & spine. Constantly try to improve your form!

Medicine Ball WOD 💫

Just grab a medicine ball and try this circuit out!
1️⃣ 20 Med Ball Cleans
2️⃣ 20 Side Throws (10 each side)
3️⃣ 20 Slam Balls 
4️⃣ 20 Wall Balls to a 9ft target 
I did this one for 3 rounds with a 20lb med ball. Scale up or down in weight and rounds depending on where you’re at!

It's the weekend!! And I hope you're all having a good one so far! How many of you have or going to be having a few drinks and kick back after a long week? (or getting absoloutley shit faced 😂) Or are some of you worried that you're going to feel guilty as if it'll completely ruin your diet if you do? Well, I'm here to tell you that should't be the case! 
Breaking it down, drinking alcohol during a weight loss diet mainly, is all about those extra calories as it is with everything else!

if you find yourself debating saying no to a night out you want to go out on or have been looking forward too, not only are you stopping yourself from some well-deserved social interaction and fun, you're also restricting yourself from some extra calories that we're allowed to give ourselves! ✅

Like everything, it's all about that balance in our lives! You might think "one margarita" won't hurt, but if you're wanting to have a guilt free night then look at your more other "healthier" options for the most part! For lower calories as pos, try and opt in for liquor + a zero-calorie mixer! 
This way, you're getting the same (if not more) alcohol for fewer calories - but it'll help with pacing yourself throughout! 
Find yourself happily sipping on these kind of drinks throughout the night rather than guzzling that juice like cocktail in under 30 seconds.. especially if you know you're going to be having those cheesy chips and greasy pizza on the way home (PLUS you're bank won't be screaming at you for paying nearly a tenner each time you want a drink 😜) Let me know if there are any other "low calorie drink hacks" you've came up with! And tag that alcoholic mate that needs this 😂👇 Enjoy your weekend guys 💫
