Even though I am back in the UK now and woke up to a wet start my mind is still walking this pathway. My body is enjoying an Epsom salt bath and my soul will be fed with my kundalini practice later this evening. NATURE // I was interviewed for a podcast last week and one of the questions I was asked was about the places and moments I feel most energetic and connected. I had to think for a second. I’m so used to talking about the times I feel depleted that I really had to think about the times I feel the opposite.

Then it came to me. As I get older, I truly love being in nature; swimming in the sea, going for a long walk or hanging out in bare feet in the grass. Every holiday, I love swimming out as far as possible in the sea and floating on my back, taking it all in. It calms me and puts things into perspective.

When I was younger, the thought of going on a big nature walk was yawnsville. Is this part of aging,  wanting calm, tranquility and time to disconnect from the pace of day to day life? Anyone else feel the same way?

Post menopause managing cortisol and estrogen is key. Some symptoms you need to watch out for are: ·  Brain fog

If you will find if you are exhibiting one or more of these symptoms then you possibly also have high stress levels which is pushing your cortisol out of whack. Cortisol when high for a long period of time, will affect blood flow to your brain. This will affect how your brain performs, so that forgetfulness that starts happening at this time, is due to this fact as well. I used to get SO many PMS symptoms, especially cramps. These symptoms occur due to the imbalance of hormones before our lovely lady flow. .
Carrots bind to excess estrogen and detoxify the body to aid in the rebalance of hormones.

I have so many ways I incorporate carrots into my diet but here is a carrot, orange and ginger juice (because my lovely lady flow is on the horizon 🤗).

I used to get SO many PMS symptoms, especially cramps. These symptoms occur due to the imbalance of hormones before our lovely lady flow. .
Carrots bind to excess estrogen and detoxify the body to aid in the rebalance of hormones.

I have so many ways I incorporate carrots into my diet but here is a carrot, orange and ginger juice (because my lovely lady flow is on the horizon 🤗).

Breast pain or breast lumps are common (just because it’s common doesn’t mean it’s normal) PMS symptoms. DISCLAIMER: I’m only talking about cyclical breast changes as a PMS symptom today.

Usually breast changes follow the pattern of the menstrual cycle eg: symptoms appear in the time leading up to your period, and disappear soon after it starts.

WHY DOES IT HAPPEN?
- Our breast have hormone receptors. In particular, oestrogen receptors
- A big shift in hormones that happens in the week leading up to your period can contribute to breast changes, specifically your oestrogen-progesterone balance if we don’t have enough progesterone to balance out oestrogen in the luteal phase (after ovulation) of our cycle
- Hormone changes can lead to swelling, pain and tissue changes in the breasts
- An Increase in pro-inflammatory prostaglandins
- Increased prolactin levels

DIET AND LIFESTYLE FACTORS
- Pro-inflammatory prostaglandins that lead to inflammation are increased in people with diets high in vegetable oils and animal fats
- Caffeine and coffee consumption can increase inflammation and pain in breasts. Same goes for alcohol
- Exercise regularly and consistently can help to alleviate symptoms
- Increase healthy omega 3 fats (from flax seeds, hemp seed, walnuts, chia seeds etc.) to help alleviate symptoms
- Increase dietary fiber (from fruits and veggies) to promote hormone clearance
- Support liver function in detoxing oestrogen (I’ll have to do a whole post on this soon!)
- Research shows vitamin E and Iodine supplements can alleviate symptoms and even help protect against breast cancer. 
If you’ve noticed unusual changes or symptoms with your breast, be safe and bring it up with your health practitioner.

Many people talk about balancing hormones without discussing what they actually are. Hormones are chemical messengers and signalling molecules. They act wirelessly like WIFI in the body and usually signal at a distance (endocrine vs regionally and locally acting paracrine and autocrine). .
Our #hormones are either made from protein if they are peptide hormones, or lipids like cholesterol if they are steroid based hormones (our sex hormones estrogen, testosterone etc). They are also made from amino acids. .
There are no carbon-hydrate based hormones. But if the body needs more carbs or glucose than usual at any time, it has this handy process called gluconeogenesis (GNG) where it can make glucose and carbs. It also goes into GNG to get into #ketosis when burning fat and #ketones for fuel and being ketotic instead of glycolytic.

Many people talk about balancing hormones without discussing what they actually are. Hormones are chemical messengers and signalling molecules. They act wirelessly like WIFI in the body and usually signal at a distance (endocrine vs regionally and locally acting paracrine and autocrine). .
Our #hormones are either made from protein if they are peptide hormones, or lipids like cholesterol if they are steroid based hormones (our sex hormones estrogen, testosterone etc). They are also made from amino acids. .
There are no carbon-hydrate based hormones. But if the body needs more carbs or glucose than usual at any time, it has this handy process called gluconeogenesis (GNG) where it can make glucose and carbs. It also goes into GNG to get into #ketosis when burning fat and #ketones for fuel and being ketotic instead of glycolytic.

If I’m being completely honest, I don’t hit the arm training anywhere near as much as I used to! I was all about the typical split, but I’ve now focused on keeping the compounds high, increased full body training with my classes, and smash the triceps with the millions of chaturanga I do in yoga, alongside my strength sessions. ⁣
⁣
Interestingly enough, you may be struggling to move the stubborn fat there, because of low testosterone levels or having the estrogen:testosterone ratio off! This can be a result of having thyroid issues, or excessive cortisol levels... it’s important to understand the whole picture when it comes to your hormones. This is not a diagnostic tool, just something to consider alongside other symptoms you may be experiencing. ⁣

Some other symptoms of low testosterone include: ⁣
💪🏽 Low sex drive ⁣
💪🏽 No motivation ⁣
💪🏽 Mood swings/cry easily/depression ⁣
💪🏽 Symptoms of chronic fatigue ⁣

Including strength training 2-3 x week in your schedule can make a great difference. Give your body some variety and resistance and see those triceps tighten! ⁣

This plays into down-regulatory feedback loop of not eating enough and therefore reducing your thyroid and general endocrine (hormonal) function.

The way you look is very dependent on your endocrine system. You don't want to muck about with it too much.

So don't wear your 500 calorie a day diet as a gold medal around your neck. It's not! Have a good look at your stimulant use and see if that's effecting your ability to eat properly.

Oh and a down-regulated endocrine system will enable you to put on tonnes of fat on those weekend binges you are having 🤷... oh wait, that isn't good 👊👊

You feel guilty taking your lunch break, so you eat while you multi-task and often end up feeling bloated or hungry afterward, wanting to graze and munch on snacks all afternoon. A big reason the bloating or want to keep eating can happen is because you are not present or focused on food. You are instead focused on the work, and not in rest and digest mode. Also when you are not present with food, you don’t feel as satisfied or satiated and often want more, because you can’t believe you already finished your meal. 
What is common amongst all my female clients is they all struggle to make themselves a priority, especially when it comes to taking breaks to nourish their bodies. Often times guilt or a fear of being judged for taking a break wins over stopping for 30 minutes to nourish the body, check-in with yourself and ask what you really need in that moment. 🌱🌿💧Yay for Plant Medicine making time! My solar infusion oil in the mason jar is all ready after sitting with the sun for two weeks. Mmm it smells amazing ! It’s infused with Lavender petals, calendula and olive oil with doTerra Lavender Essential oil. It’s the carrier oil I’m using to make my Moon potion, to aid in support with hormones, emotions, body aches etc during feminine Moon cycle times along with support from the energies the Full moon brings on🥴! I’ve added healing crystals of Quartz, Amethyst, Carnelian, Red Jasper, and Tigers Eye which are all healing for our Base, Sacral and Solar plexus chakras. Those chakras represent much of our endocrine system where many hormones are produced, and where we need grounding during times of Full Moons(any Nurse, Teacher etc is all too familiar with the crazy energies that exist during the full moons lol)! .
