You know that feeling you get when you are washing clothes and find $20 in a random pants pocket! Well, that's how I felt at the gym this week, but better!!!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'm really trying to get myself back into a REGULAR exercise pattern! I never knew that making time for myself to exercise while being self-employed would be so difficult! When my kids were small, I did make time because I knew I couldn't be a good mom if I didn't have a few minutes of stress relief at the gym each day....now, I'm just being a major slacker.

Grief changes you in so many ways and having the motivation to exercise is one of them! If you see me around town and think..."Wow, Sarah looks like she's gained 15 pounds!" You'd be right!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While I'm disappointed in myself, I'm having to show myself some grace. Each day is a new opportunity to make good decisions about what I'm eating and my increasing goal to move more!

If you are one of those people that dread working out, just DO IT! Just go for a walk, take a bike ride or stop by the gym! I believe in you and I'm believing in myself! It's not about being skinny, it's about being healthy for myself and those special people that live in my house!

How often do you use your workouts as a way to explore different movements, new ranges of motion or just to check in to see how your body feels? -

If you don’t, you should give it a try. Following an exercise program is awesome, don’t get me wrong, BUT you should also be taking time to get to know your body better. Kinda like a new toy or gadget. You want to play around with it to see what all the buttons and features can do. Similar concept here. 👌🏼

I have ankle/calf/tibia/and prob some foot issues that I try to work on every so often (definitely should be more but 🤷🏻‍♀️). I made up the first couple exercises by playing around with my foot position. I tend to cramp when it’s in this type of extension and wanted to work on getting more comfortable within this range. I basically told my feet that it was okay to be in this position and they were able to relax a little more. -

The last two moves were for strength and because I wanted to work my backside (erectors, hamstrings and glutes). -

This workout was a nice mix of play and strength moves. Gave me a chance to realize where I was tight and what would feel good for my body today.

If you want your biceps to take the lions share of the curl you’ve got to try and get the forearms out of it!  How?? Bend them back as you curl the weight up.  It’s easy to get this right with the dumbbell because your only focus will be to keep the top plate of the bell FACING UP the entire time!  This will automatically put the wrists where they need to be and make the biceps do their job.

My hair is rarely done, my kids’ hair is never done, I think my toddler runs the house and none of us are quite sure how that happened, most mornings I won’t talk to you, I just want to sit in silence and read and drink coffee and not have to be an adult. .
My point is. There are so many imperfections I can point to at the end of my day. This beautiful dancer photo hides those things. I share them because maybe you’re like me & struggle with how you parent, or your other {normal} flaws. .

Just me ... attempting to do some work in a squat ... The squat is arguably the most important exercise. But it would be amazing to use this fundamental human movement pattern in our day to day lives. It roots us to our natural biomechanics. When you see a child squat, it is so instinctive and human, then as we grow we lose this.

I feel quite comfortable sitting in a squat but I want to do this more and I’m hoping this may impact positively on my lower back issues.

But it would be amazing to use this fundamental human movement pattern in our day to day lives. It roots us to our natural biomechanics. When you see a child squat, it is so instinctive and human, then as we grow we lose this.

Nutrient dense Veggies Grass-Fed Beef Sloppy Joe, so yummy! (8 servings)⁣
What you need:⁣
➡️2 lbs grass-fed ground beef (if you don't eat beef, you can use ground turkey, chicken or pork)⁣
➡️1 medium onion, chopped⁣
➡️1 zucchini, diced⁣
➡️1 green bell pepper, diced⁣
➡️1 yellow bell pepper, diced⁣
➡️3 tomatoes, diced ⁣
➡️5 oz bella mushrooms, sliced⁣
➡️3 stalks celery, chopped⁣
➡️1 carrot, julienned ⁣
➡️2 (25oz) organic tomato basil marinara sauce from @traderjoes ⁣
➡️1 tbs basil ⁣
➡️1 tbs oregano ⁣
➡️1 tbs parsley⁣
➡️1 tbs Himalayan pink salt⁣
➡️1 tbs black pepper⁣
➡️1.5 tbs garlic powder⁣
➡️1/4-1/2 avocado per serving ⁣
⁣
What to do:⁣
1. Heat up a big saucepan over medium heat, and add ground beef and sauté till no longer pink.⁣ (If you use ground chicken, turkey or pork instead, heat up sauce pan with 2 tbs avocado oil.)
2. Add chopped onion and sauté for 1-2 minutes till onion is softened.⁣
3. Add chopped zucchini, bell peppers, celery, tomatoes and carrot and sauté for 1-2 minutes.⁣
4. Add marinara sauce and seasoning and herbs, bring it to broil; reduce to low heat, cover and cook for 15 minutes.⁣
5. Add mushrooms and stir well; cover and cook for another 2 minutes.⁣
6. Serve immediately top with some avocado on a piece of sprouted whole grain bread or on 1/2 cup of brown rice pasta or quinoa pasta.⁣

I'm not a massively competitive person, but I do like to out-do myself. This is my activity overview for August - can you tell the week I was on holiday? Everyday for a week, I met all three targets for activity (moving enough to burn 380 calories), exercising for at least 30 mins and breaking sedentary activity by standing at least once for 2 mins every hour. 
Over the last few months as I learnt more about the negative impact of inactivity, the more I have tried to move, jump, hop, swim to keep myself active.

In 2008 The World health organisation reported that 3.2 million deaths were due to insufficient activity particularly during leisure time. So many of us lead such busy lives, that it's no surprise that when do get some down time, all we want to do is just put our feet up. For me in years gone by, holidays would have meant being sat by a pool with a book, trying to move as little as possible, but after reading about the damage that this can do to the body, I thought I would approach things differently this time. 
Exercise doesn't have to be sweating it out in the gym, personally this just makes me feel inadequate. But instead I've tried to make exercise part of what we do as a  family. We were lucky to have access to a poo AND UNLIMITED TIME, so we spent as much of that time IN the pool rather than beside it. The kids loved playing piggy in the middle, races or throwing and swimming after the beach ball - and the best thing was it was so much fun doing it. Most day's it didn't feel like I was 'exercising' I was just having a bloody good time.

Getting regular exercise has been so good - no back ache, slept better and noticing changes to body composition too - its funny by making time for exercise, you actually get better quality time elsewhere! Let God’s light SHINE through you!  It was a struggle to exercise today, but had to stop making excuses and GET IT DONE! I initially started with a gentle walk then started 1 minute intervals. Intervals are a great way to help you increase the intensity without wearing you out! 😇 Exercising at a higher intensity also helps ya burn more calories!!!🔥💪😄I did 1 minute moderate walk then 1 minute brisk walk/light jog. I continued alternating the intensity till I finished my route. Client and friend, @scolvin26, has had knee problems for a long while and one of the reasons she came to Garage Gym!

Recently she was talking about how much better, stronger, and confident she feels.  She followed this up with telling me the one thing she really wants to be able to do is Box Jump. So we dropped everything last week to just try a 6” box jump which she had no problem with and one week later she successfully jumps to a 16” box! Definitely still room for improvement as well!
